Investment Banking CertificationQuestion: Is networking important as an investment banking professional?

Answer: Networking is of the utmost importance to investment banking professionals, especially as the professionals rise up the ranks within a bank. While junior bankers are not traditionally expected to bring in business, bankers who are officers of their firm are indeed tasked with generating revenue for the firm. Networks could take the form of contacts within an industry (such as CEOs and CFOs of automobile companies), contacts at financial firms (such as major buyout firms), contacts at other banks, and contacts in professions such as law, accounting and management consulting. For junior bankers, networking might include knowing other people within their own bank or other junior bankers at outside firms.
