Investment Banking CertificationQuestion: What are the main functions of an investment banking professional?

Answer: Valuation is the core of investment banking work. Bankers are most often tasked with advising companies on either M&A (mergers and acquisitions) assignments or on capital raising. For both types of engagements, valuation is critical. On the M&A side, bankers needs to advise their clients on the right price at which to sell or to acquire a business. In the instance of raising capital through an equity offering, bankers need to advise their clients about what ownership stake to offer for a given equity investment. The primary valuation techniques include comparable companies analysis, precedent transactions analysis and discounted cash flow analysis.
